Augustine Rampolla and Kyle Gibson are no strangers to releasing an album. Both guys happened to be a part of You, Me, and Everyone We Know when they released their extremely well received album Some Things Don’t Wash Out. After the split they formed The Little Indians. New projects can often times be tricky to achieve success after you’ve been in a big well loved band (ask ex-Panic! At The Disco members Ryan Ross and Jon Walker about their short lived and critically panned project The Young Veins). The microscope is on the artist to craft something just as good in quality and the expectations can be enormous.

Rampolla and Gibson find themselves living up to expectations with the new album from The Little Indians aptly titled An Album From The Little Indians. If you were a fan of their previous band don’t expect to hear quite the same power pop/rock from the duo. The Little Indians debut album is brisk, mid-tempo, melody filled, indie rock. Guess what? It may be one of the better indie rock albums you’ll hear this year. It’s a fitting album for late summer or early fall and it should be a welcome addition to people’s musical collection.

The tone and vibe of the album is great, the music is well written, and masterfully assembled. It all works really well. Vocally and lyrically it’s done extremely well and some songs feature the melody melting into the music very nicely. It creates an almost fun, lazy, laid back summer feeling that I often associate with The Beach Boys (“I Don’t Mind, Take Your Time” is a prime example of this).

 I wasn’t sure what to expect from a debut album from this project. I was pleasantly surprised to find the album had surpassed my expectations and really earned it’s spot in serious contention to end up somewhere on my best of the year list. This isn’t an album to miss and it’s a really fun listen and a solid album all the way through.
